BESTMAP's Final Event: Research Lessons to Inform Future CAP Reform

BESTMAP is delighted to officially announce the upcoming Final Dissemination Event, which will take place on 7th February in Brussels, Belgium. This significant for the project event is coordinated by the project's partners from RISE Foundation in collaboration with BESTMAP's sisters projects within the AGRIMODEL cluster and under the umbrella of the ForumForAg initiative. The primary objective is to investigate the effectiveness of our current agri-environmental schemes in achieving the necessary environmental impact and to consider how the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) could better contribute to halting biodiversity loss in Europe.

The International Biogeography Biennial Conference 2024

The International Biogeography Society organizes for the 2024 Biennial Conference, 7-11 January, 2024 in Prague, Czech Republic. The symposia (held on January 8th, 9th & 10th) are an integral part of our meeting as they are in the form of plenary sessions in which all attendees participate.  These plenary symposia provide the opportunity for several speakers (typically 5-6) to present cutting-edge work that will appeal to a broad cross-section of Biogeographers.

IALE 2023 World Congress

The IALE World Congress occurs every four years and is the premier event for landscape ecologists worldwide to address topics in landscape ecology that range from local to global in scale. During the World Congress, landscape ecologists from public, private, and non-profit sectors will address a broad spectrum of environmental challenges and their potential solutions. The 2023 World Congress will be a hybrid (online/in person) event and it is for the first time being hosted in the Global South.  The World Congress theme is ‘Transboundary Resource Management, Climate Change and Environmental Resilience’.

6th International Research Workshop on Archetype Analysis in Sustainability Research

The workshop aims to strengthen the network of researchers using the archetypes approach in sustainability research. Specifically, it provides a unique opportunity to:

1. Present and discuss cutting-edge sustainability research which uses archetype analysis: Empirical, theoretical, and methodological developments. 

2. Work on joint papers, research proposals, and special issues in interactive breakout groups.

3. Pitch new research ideas and spark collaborative follow-up activities.

The 3rd Global Soil Biodiversity Conference

The 3rd Global Soil Biodiversity Conference to be held in Dublin (Ireland) in 2023 will expand on previous GSBI conferences and convene the world’s leading experts in this interdisciplinary field of soil biodiversity science to present and discuss recent advances addressing the urgency of meeting global challenges which link to human, animal and plant health and a more sustainable world. SFE2-GfÖ-EEF joint meeting

During the last century, a period now known as the Anthropocene, ecologists and evolutionists alerted the Society to several major environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution of the environment. In response, scientists throughout the world have joined forces to not only identify and explain these phenomena but to develop tools that may help to solve these major environmental issues! However, there remain many open questions related to new challenges, new perspectives, and possibly new solutions, all of which need to be discussed within the scientific community and between scientists and policy makers.

4th ESP Europe Conference

It is time to empower the inclusion of communities and civil society in both the design and implementation of ecosystem services science, policy and practice; to better account for equity, justice, and societal needs; to recognize societal power in design and implementation of actions; to find improved ways of enhancing societal literacy regarding ecosystem services and nature contributions to people. Ecosystem service science and practice need to actively work with and within individuals and communities who depend on nature for their well-being and often lose the most during emerging crises.

The current biodiversity crisis have led to a call for transformative change globally and in Europe - a change in how we interact with Nature that reduces pressure on biodiversity and secure Natures’ Benefits to People. This challenges how we perform conservation science, and calls for science-based practices that put humans and nature on a track that takes us out of the current crisis.

Practitioners, consultants, politicians, conservation and social scientists and students are welcomed to discuss and to design new guidelines, tools and strategies in order to meet new challenges in times of biodiversity crisis.

IALE 2022 European Landscape Ecology Congress: Making the future, learning from the past

The IALE 2022 European Landscape Ecology Congress aims to highlight landscape ecology as the transdisciplinary platform linking past, present and future. This approach is especially needed now when the world is facing global challenges such as climate crisis, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, mass migration and urbanization. A holistic, landscape approach to the complex cultural-environmental systems – which is the essence of landscape ecology – provides the perfect framework for combining transdisciplinary tools and perspectives to better understand the diverse phenomena and processes around us and to predict and properly manage them. That is why we want to learn from past experience and knowledge to take responsibility for shaping sustainable landscapes and societies of the future.

In addition, the world’s largest informal Conference of Agriculture Ministers takes place on the third conference day as the highlight of the GFFA.
