Nestled between the mighty Danube River and the Tisa River, the Bačka region enjoys the advantages of these waterways, enhancing its agricultural potential.

Bačka, with its flat terrain and fertile soil, is known for intensive agriculture and the primarily focus is on general cropping, with staples like wheat and maize dominating the landscape. Additionally, horticulture, fruit-growing, and scattered vegetable production are essential. The decline of grasslands, however has negatively impacted biodiversity and the environment.

Serbia has undertaken substantial agricultural reforms in the past decade. However, addressing environmental issues in farming remains a challenge. Serbia has yet to implement programs and measures to support eco-friendly farming practices fully. Research in the Bačka district of the Vojvodina region is evaluating future AEM options in Serbia with two primary goals:

- Understanding Farmers' Choices: Researchers are studying how producers decide to adopt AEM, considering factors like contract duration, administrative effort, and payment per hectare.

- Assessing Environmental Impact: The research assesses the environmental consequences of five common AEM practiced across Europe.
